Boyd Parker: Who are your Six?

The concept of the “Power of Six” is based on the idea that we are greatly influenced by the people we spend the most time with. This idea suggests that the six people we spend the most time with can have a significant impact on our attitudes, behaviors, and overall life experience.

In other words, if you surround yourself with people who have a positive attitude, achieve great results, and are happy, you are more likely to adopt those same characteristics. Conversely, if you spend time with people who have a negative attitude, don’t achieve much, and are unhappy, you are more likely to adopt those same traits as well.

This is because our brains are wired to look for social cues and to conform to the norms of the groups we belong to. So, if we spend most of our time with people who are positive, driven, and happy, our brains will start to adopt those same patterns of behavior and thought, and we’ll be more likely to achieve similar results in our own lives.

Therefore, it’s important to be intentional about the people we spend our time with, and to choose a “Power of Six” that aligns with the attitude, results, and happiness we desire. This means surrounding ourselves with people who uplift and encourage us, who share our values and goals, and who have a positive influence on our cognitive biases.

Of course, it’s not always possible to completely control who we spend our time with, especially if we have work or family obligations. However, we can still take steps to create a positive “Power of Six” by seeking out like-minded people and communities, joining social groups or clubs that align with our interests, and actively cultivating relationships with people who have a positive influence on us.

In conclusion, our social environment has a significant impact on our cognitive biases and overall life experience. By being intentional about the people we spend our time with and creating a positive “Power of Six,” we can reprogram our cognitive biases to align with the attitude, results, and happiness we desire. This can ultimately lead to a more fulfilling and successful life.
